GRADING

Grading encompasses a variety of construction tasks such as digging and filling.  Specifically, it involves construction-related excavation and the handling (either reusing or disposing) of materials, as well as the use of both on-site and imported soils to fulfill all construction requirements.  This includes:

  • Excavation activities
  • Soil Improvement
  • Soil compaction
  • Backfilling
  • Clearing land
  • Ensuring adequate drainage
  • Stockpiling
  • Earthwork construction including fills and embankments
  • Widening or construction of private roads
  • Paving, re-paving of private roads and parking lots
  • Rough grading
  • Precise grading

Importance of Proper Management

The City’s aesthetic value can be impacted by grading and land clearing that isn’t properly managed. Implementing and enforcing minimum standards for grading operations is crucial to prevent the removal or stripping of soil, which can lead to unattractive landscapes prone to erosion, ground sinking, sediment buildup, and pollution.
